Clinical Research Imaging Core (CRIC)

The UWCCC Clinical Research Imaging Core (CRIC) partners closely with UW Radiology’s Radius Image Analysis and Medical Imaging Research Support (MIRS) to provide imaging support related to cancer research. This partnership contributes to the effective and efficient use of image-based outcome measures in research performed at the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

Developments and Resources

UW SMPH Department of Radiology Radius Rebrand

To provide imaging services to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center clinical trials, CRIC  partnered with the image analysis group within the UW Department of Radiology Medical Imaging Research Support (MIRS). The image analysis group, previously known as MIRS-Image Analysis or MIRS-IA, has re-branded itself and is now Radius. 

The Radius re-brand will not affect any operations within cancer center clinical trials. Please contact Alex Arbuckle with any questions.

CRIC is excited to continue its relationship with Radius to provide tumor response assessments and scan de-identification and submission services to UWCCC Clinical trials. To date, 36 UWCCC clinical trials use the tumor response assessment service and another 98 clinical trials using the de-identification and submission service. CRIC looks forward to continuing its prosperous partnership with Radius  and further expanding our service lines.

Services

Integration with Clinical Research at UW:

CRIC provides the highest quality of imaging expertise and management to cancer center studies, with close interaction with the UWCCC DOTs and other investigators. These services range from protocol inception and imaging manual development to scan submission for central review and image analysis.

CRIC and the UWCCC DOTS

CRIC serves as the UWCCC entry point into UW Radiology MIRS for imaging expertise and review for clinical trials run through the UWCCC Disease Oriented Teams (DOTs). CRIC provides imaging manual development and management to DOTs to ensure scan parameters are appropriate, accessible to imaging technologists, and to streamline the patient’s experience as much as possible.

Protocol Planning and Regulatory Management

  • Protocol review for imaging components with input from modality experts as needed (ex. CT, MRI, PET, etc.)
  • Imaging manual development for clinical protocols
  • Regulatory management and oversight (Appendix M DHS, FDA DMF, IND, RDRC)
  • Scheduling PET radiopharmaceutical production and scans

Scan Submission for Central Review

  • Scan de-identification and submission to central review for sponsored and cooperative group studies is performed by CRIC and Radius staff
  • Imaging query management

Radius

  • Radius is  the image analysis core lab within MIRS that CRIC partners with to provide tumor imaging response assessments, providing dedicated imaging excellence to UWCCC clinical trials
  • Tumor response assessments are closely integrated with UW Radiology clinical workflows to ensure rapid turn-around time and consistent reporting
  • Response assessments done use widely used validated criteria, including RECIST v 1.1, irRECIST, or iRECIST
