{"id":9036,"date":"2018-05-14T11:43:21","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T16:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cancer.wisc.edu\/research\/?p=9036"},"modified":"2018-12-04T11:43:47","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T17:43:47","slug":"forgotten-molecules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwtest.cancer.wisc.edu\/research\/forgotten-molecules\/","title":{"rendered":"Forgotten Molecules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a rainy day last fall, chemist\u00a0<strong>Scott Wildman<\/strong>\u00a0left his office on the UW\u2013 Madison campus and drove to a retirement community on the city\u2019s west side to bring 40 years of scientific work out of the dark.<\/p>\n<p>His trip brought him to the home of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/biochem.wisc.edu\/emeritus\/anderson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laurens \u201cAndy\u201d Anderson<\/a>\u00a0MS\u201947 PhD\u201950, emeritus professor of biochemistry. There, packed away in a closet, Wildman found a cache of dark green boxes holding nearly 800 meticulously organized vials of purified chemicals, each one stoppered with real cork and labeled with intricate handwriting. Many of the vials boasted a tiny drawing of a structural chemical formula for identifying the white or sometimes colored powders inside.
