SMPH Diversity Summit: The Impact of the Intersectionality of Gender, Race, and Class on Academic Medicine.
January 24, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Our keynote speaker, Denise Rodgers, M.D., is Vice Chancellor for Interprofessional Programs at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. She is also the Hunterdon Chair in Interprofessional Education at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where she is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. In addition to the plenary session, please select one of two panel breakout sessions:
- Exploring the Impact of Gender, Race and class on the Academic/Professional Experience
How does one’s race, social status and gender affect success in the professional or academic environment? Hear first-hand examples of people navigating obstacles because of organizational expectations, or patterns they adopted. Learn ways to provide support for each person to achieve their highest potential in the professional and academic environment. - Exploring the Impact of Gender, Race and Class on Public Health Outcomes
Statistics show marked differences in life expectancy, mortality, incidence of disease, and causes of death across racial, gender and social class groups. Explore the scope of these disparities, identify obstacles to health equity, and learn proven approaches to improve public health outcomes and effectively engage the community.
Registration is now open. Please feel free to share the attached flyer with your colleagues.
